For the next three class periods, you will work as a member of a one, two, or three-person team (of your choosing) to design and build a rocket that carries, and safely returns, its payload to Earth. On launch day, you will need to provide 2 hard-boiled eggs per team.

Building your Rocket

Criteria:

Your company needs to engineer a design that will protect the payload (hard boiled egg)
upon reentry. This could be done via parachute or reinforced re-entry capsule.
Parachutes CANNOT simply hang on the side of your rocket! They must deploy AFTER the launch.
Your payload must be able to land on the surface with no structural damage.
Your rocket must be able to sustain a stable flight path after launch - this will require a minimum of 3 stabilizing fins.

Constraints:

The throw-weight of the payload (weight of the egg plus all other materials used in your
engineering design) must be under 200 grams.
Your engineering design cannot be larger than the dimensions shown in the packet. This will allow
it to safely fit inside the payload compartment.
If successful, your company will be paid $200,000 for your work. In order to make a
profit you need to keep your payroll and purchased supplies under this amount.

Things to Remember

You were free to choose your team. If team members are absent or slacking off, you must come up with a solution. That is your responsibility, not mine.
I should be able to look at each of your sketches and be able to reproduce your design exactly - think of each sketch as a recipe. If I can't replicate your design using your sketch, you need more detail.
In order to pass this project you must keep good records of your expenditures and document each step of your design process using notes, sketches and photographs.
