Creating Canvas Outcomes

What is an "OUTCOME"?

Defining a clear expectation for what students will be able to do at the end of a lesson is very important to know BEFORE beginning a lesson.
Check out this short video that explains how to use the "CABD" approach for writing a student learning outcome.

Now that you have an outcome created for your lesson, it's easy to build that outcome into your Canvas Course to use later when designing a rubric for your assignments, discussions, and quizzes.

As you are designing your Canvas Course it's important to not only think about your learning outcomes first, but also to put them into your Canvas Course so you can use them as you build learning activities for your students.

Canvas Learning Outcomes can be used to create rubrics, or connected to a group of quiz questions, assignment, or graded discussion.

Consider that fact that most students take classes with a specific outcome in mind when they sign up for a class.  You, the Instructor, should focus your teaching on helping your students meet these outcomes.

"If building a course with modules is creating a skeleton, think of the learning outcomes as the bone marrow."
-Michael Hakkarinen (UEN Instructional Technology Trainer)
