COURSE SUPPLIES

Cloudbooks are available this year for every student who wishes to use one. Hotspots are also available if needed for Internet access. These need to be checked out through the school.

Cloudbooks checked out through the school are the student's responsibility. Students are expected to take them home and bring them to school charged. There are not extra cords for charging nor enough outlets at school for the Cloudbooks.

Students will need:
*   A device for accessing the Internet BOTH AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME: Cloudbook, tablet or personal laptop. Cellphones are not sufficient. Cloudbooks may be checked out through the school, as well as hotspots if needed. The device must have a webcam and microphone. Students must bring it to school charged and ready.
  Earbuds  with a microphone for use at school. Students may also borrow a class headset for use in class. I do not have enough to check out for home.
*   Notebook or binder (for notes and handouts)
*   Lined paper (for notes and in-class assignments)
*   2 dry erase markers (dark colored)
*   Whiteboard eraser
*   Pen and pencil

ONLINE RESOURCES

Students will need access to several online resources:

Clever is a district single sign on platform that allows access to many different district or teacher resources with one username and password. If requested to log in, students should sign in with the same user name and password they use for Office 365. I have noted below if the resources are available through Clever.
  • Canvas Parents or students use this link . Student access also available through Clever,
  • EMC Passeport or Carnegie Learning. Access available through Clever.
  • Quizlet, Kahoot, Nearpod
  • Remind. More details for accessing Remind are below under "communication".
  • This Is Language  More details in class.

COMMUNICATION

Emails and Canvas

Most communication will come through Canvas. I will send email reminders. Due dates will be posted. Announcements and special instructions will all be through Canvas. Very few emails will come through the district Encore system or Outlook. Parents are encouraged to sign up for a parent account in order to receive these communications. You can also communicate with me through your student's Canvas French 3 course inbox.

It is essential that students check their Canvas French 3 course Inbox regularly. (Don't use the inbox associated with this webpage.) Students can set up notifications to come to another email account if they choose. More specific instructions are given in the student's Canvas French 3 course.

You may also contact me through my district email: juhall@dsdmail.net

Remind (texts)

Remind is a way for parents or students to communicate with me and I with them via text without disclosing either of our phone numbers. Although most communication will be through Canvas, quick text reminders or one-on-one communication is convenient with texting.

Via this webpage: Click here for French 3 Remind Links to an external site.                         OR         Via cell: Text @bgdf346 to 81010 (French 3 only)

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT (CE)

Concurrent Enrollment with Weber State University allows students to earn college credit at the same time as earning high school credit for a fraction of the normal price. After paying a one-time admission fee, students can earn this credit for a very small fee per credit (currently $15 for 3 credits of French). In French, the curriculum is the same for both students who are concurrently enrolled and those who are not, so there is no extra work involved. However, Weber State's attendance policy (and thus for CE French) is much more stringent than Bountiful High School's attendance policy (see the disclosure). Also, your grade will go on your permanent WSU transcript.

IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO BE REGISTERED FOR FRENCH CE AT BOUNTIFUL HIGH SCHOOL TO BE CONCURRENTLY ENROLLED FOR WEBER STATE CREDIT. Although you must be registered for French 2 at BHS, You must also register through Weber State University as well!  And before you can register, you have to apply for admission to WSU.
See Step by step Instructions for Weber State CE admission and registration. for more precise instructions as well as info on documents needed and payment.

Admission deadline is Sept. 8, 2023.   Admission through WSU takes up to 3-7 days to process before you can continue on to register for the class.

Once you are admitted, you can register for the class!

iF YOU ARE ADMITTED OR REGISTER LATE, YOU WILL NOT GET BE ABLE TO TAKE THE COURSE FOR CREDIT.
