Description of 7th Grade Math Lab:

Co-Requisite Supplemental Math is intended to increase student understanding and achievement by increasing time, intensity and access to high-cognitive rigor for on-grade level core standards. This course focuses on supporting students with the Summit Learning Platform Math content.  Opportunities that teach prerequisite skills are directly tied to and taught in context of on-grade level content. Students can expect to be exposed to frequent and regular use of task-based learning in order to meet these objectives as well as regular and intentional interactions with the teaching and learning Mathematical Practices.

 

Expectations for Math Lab:

  • Participate in class discussions for reteaching content learned from regular math class. 
  • Work on Summit Learning.
  • Ask teacher or fellow students for help understanding math content when needed
  • Be respectful to fellow students and teacher at all times

 

Grading for Math Lab

Math Lab grade will be based on participation in the lab assignment and assignments from their regular math class.  Students will typically receive a set of exercises each week in their regular math class. These assignments can be found on their Summit Learning platform. If students have completed all that they are required to do for math lab, they can work on other subjects in the Summit Platform. 

 

Students will receive a homework score out of 8 points each week in math lab based on the following criteria:

·         Participate at all times in lab class activity and Summit Learning Platform.

5

·        Participate only in lab activity or Summit Platform - but not both. 

4

·         Used cell phone, headphones, or laptop for games or other non-Summit related items.

0/M

·         Has been repeatedly (more than once) asked to put away headphones, phone OR used laptop for other things besides Summit Platform.  Or did not participate in Lab activity and Summit Platform.  

Based on these scores, students will receive a pass/fail grade for the course at the end of each term.

Pass

At least 60%

Fail

Less than 60%

 

Math Help:

The following are recommendations if a student needs additional help completing their homework:

  • Use the resources provided on the Summit Learning Platform.
  • Ask the teacher during class.
  • Email their teacher and set up a video call
  • Work on homework during Panther Success
  • Call/text their fellow classmates
