Your first short story will be an open topic, meaning you select it! Write about whatever you like, but know that if it contains *difficult* elements, we cannot share/workshop it effectively/at all.
If you're stuck, write to a major theme, or lesson, like a lot of poetry does:
loss of...
forgiveness of...
acceptance of...
happiness with...
etc.
Your story is finished when your character has a resolution for Internal and External conflict (found earlier in the module ending the week of Oct. 2). There is no minimum or maximum page length, but be aware that it is incredibly hard to write short stories in under a page or two, or over about 20 pages, and still hold the reader's attention. If held under duress, I'd say the average short story in Creative Writing by students is about 6 pages, typed.
Allow yourself plenty of time to write this, since it's due about a week before term's end, and I'll still need time to read it!
