The October book report is due on Thursday, October 31.  This should be on a book they finished in October.

No school on November 1.  This day has been set aside for teaching training.

Halloween Party

Our sixth-grade Halloween Party will be on Tuesday from 9:00-10:30 in the school cafeteria.  Students may wear their costumes all day, even after the party.  Please remember no inappropriate costumes, no gory costumes, no weapons, and no masks.  Thanks to everyone who has signed up to help with running a station and with donations for our sundae bar.  If you are helping with a station, please arrive a few minutes early to get set up.  Thursday is an early out day, so school will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

November 6 and November 7 will be early dismissal at 1:30 for parent-teacher conferences.  I will be sending home a confirmation note with your conference time.

What We’re Learning This Week

This week in language arts we'll continue reading a Sherlock Holmes story, "The Tale of the Speckled Band."

In math we'll be working more with solving ratio problems.

This week in science we'll be learning how heat affects the state of matter.

This week we will finish up our Egypt unit by learning about King Tut.  Next Monday, November 4, we will be having a small Ancient Egypt celebration.  We will wear our Egyptian necklaces, paint our King Tut masks, play some games that have been found in Egyptian tombs, and have a small tasting of some Egyptian foods.

Report Cards

You should be able to access your student's report card through your myDSD account at 4:00 p.m. today.  We will go over report cards at next week's conferences.

Missing Work

Hopefully, you have been seeing the emails that I send home every Monday about the status of your student’s assignments.  I also give the students a copy of this report on Mondays.  There are usually 3 reasons for missing assignments (besides just being in the no-name bin or forgotten in their desk folder):

  1. Absences

Remember that students have work to make up if they are absent.  They are responsible for talking to me and figuring out what needs to be done.  This is an important skill when they are dealing with 8 teachers next year in junior high.

  1. Homework

I am having WAY TOO MANY students not turning in homework on time.  They have homework every night, and it needs to be turned in the next day.

  1. Unfinished Assignments

I give them plenty of class time to finish their work.  If they do not focus in class, they may need to finish an assignment at home.

If your student has been struggling with missing assignments, make a goal with them to improve this term.
