I enjoyed meeting with all of you at parent-teacher conferences last week.  We set some great goals, and I'm looking forward to a lot of progress before our next conference in January.  Thanks for taking the time to come and meet with me!

What We’re Learning This Week

This week we'll be writing an essay based on our Amplify readings.  Students will write about 3 characteristics of good investiagors using evidence from our nonfiction selection on yellow fever and the 2 Sherlock Holmes stories we read.  We will then start a poetry unit.

In math this week we will be doing a lot of work with percentages.  Students ARE NOT allowed to use caculators on this week's homework.

This week in science we'll do some observations about heat energy and matter.

And in social studies, we will start our unit on Ancient China.  This week we'll learn about the geography of China, the teachings of Confucious, Chinese calligraphy, and inventions from Ancient China.

Absences and Missing Work

Please remember that when students are absent, they miss class assignments!  Any work that students miss when they are absent needs to be made up when they return to school in a reasonable amount of time.  Students need to get in the habit of checking with me when they are absent and getting any missed assignments.  Next year they will have eight teachers to check with when they are absent!
