Mrs. Hall's Happenings
Greek Festival
This Thursday is our Greek Festival.
**Working on festival projects is students' only homework this week.
**We will be dressing in Greek chitons for our festival. If possible, please send a white sheet to school with your student on Wednesday and I will help them pin it into a chiton (the Greek word for a toga).
**Student projects will be on display in the cafeteria from 9:15-10:45. Parents are welcome to come and visit our festival!
**We will be holding our Greek Olympics in the afternoon. If you would be available to help run a station from 1:30-3:30, please let me know.
What We’re Learning This Week
This week in language arts we will be reading the story of Odysseus.
We will finish up our unit on Ancient Greece by doing some activities about Greek architecture and holding a mock Greek Assembly.
In math we'll be starting our prealgebra unit. This week we'll learn about exponents, order of operations, and writing algebraic expressions.
This week in science we'll be reviewing and taking a test on weather systems.
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is in two weeks. We will be celebrating with a valentine exchange and some party games in class. Students may bring valentines to exchange with their classmates. I will provide a bag and some decorations, so there is no need for students to bring a special box from home. We have 26 students in our class. I will send home a class list if students want to label their valentines. Please note: Bringing valentines to exchange is completely optional. If students choose to participate, they need to bring a valentine for every student in class. They should not bring special valentines for individual classmates. If you would like to help donate some refreshments/candy for our class party, please see the sign-up genius in the email.
Junior High Registration
Mueller Park Junior--Panther Preview is Wednesday night from 6-7. You can turn in registration forms that evening or send them to school with your student. The junior high will be picking those up next week.
Millcreek Junior High--Drop off your registration form at their Registration Night this Thursday from 5:30-7:00.
Learning to Breathe
Here's information from our L2B instructor about last week's lesson:
Dear Parent,
Last week we had our second Learning to Breathe class. After a brief opening mindfulness practice, we continued to build on our theme from last week:
B- Body: Listen! The body is trying to tell you something
You’ll want to continue referencing the B section of the parent handbook and pull out the L2B Discussion cards for theme B if you haven’t already. Also, hopefully you’ve downloaded the L2B app. If not, now is a great time to do that so you can listen to a Body Scan recording with your child.
Please reach out with any questions.
