What We’re Learning This Week

This week in language arts we’ll be finishing Summer of the Mariposas.

In math we'll be winding up our Equations and Inequalities unit.  Our math test will be on Friday.  A review will come home on Thursday night.

In social studies, we will shift our focus to Islam and its spread during the Middle Ages.

And in science we'll continue to talk about animal interactions in ecosystems.

Medieval Feast

It's almost time for our sixth-grade Medieval Feast on March 27.  This is another "dress up" event for our sixth graders.  We would like to encourage them to dress medieval!  It makes the feast more fun.  Ask your student what role they will be playing at our feast. Here is a video for a quick and easy medieval costume: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaH6v70h3ys&t=1s Links to an external site.
Students will certainly get enough to eat at the feast (bread, soup, salad, chicken, crackers, fruit, cheese, and sherbet) but are still welcome to bring or buy a regular lunch that day.We are in need of parent volunteers for setup, serving the food, and cleanup from 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  If you would be available to volunteer on March 27, just reply to this email.

Learning to Breathe

Here's information about last week's lesson:

Today we met for our seventh Learning to Breathe class.
After beginning with a brief mindfulness practice and reviewing the themes from the previous weeks, we began exploring a new theme:
A-Attention: Paying attention to body sensations, thoughts, and emotions is good stress reduction
This theme brings together our three previous themes as students have now learned to recognize their body sensations, thoughts, and emotions. You will find more information to support your learning around this theme in the Parent Handbook. We hope you’ll find the resources there helpful in reducing your own stress and your child’s.
