Welcome to 5th Grade where we are BOLD, BRIGHT, and BRAVE

Hi! I'm Mrs. Moncur! I have a great love of teaching. It is an absolute joy in my life! I thoroughly enjoy the Columbia Elementary community. It is a special place to be a part of. I consider it a privilege to teach children. I love  teaching fifth grade and  have a great love of learning.  I have several favorite quotes in regard to education, but my favorite, which describes my purpose is the following by Dr. Martin Luther King:

"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education."

What I Want to Accomplish This School Year:

It is my goal to provide your child with the best education possibleI know as we work together, we can make a successful learning experience for your child I believe learning should be tailored to each child's needs, while being interesting and relevant to your child's world. The use of technology is helping to achieve this goal.  My desire is to help each child love learning, develop lifelong learning habits, and build confidence in themselves.

I will be teaching the Davis Desk Standards Links to an external site.as outlined by Davis School District

 Contact Information

Communication between parent and teacher concerning your student is critical for student success.  Please feel free to contact me regarding any concerns you may have.  The best way to reach me is through e-mail:  dmoncur@dsdmail.net          I check it often throughout the day. You may also call the school at 801.402.3350.  You will be directed to my desk phone.  If I am unable to answer, you will be directed to my voice mail.  Please leave me a message and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Communication and CANVAS

As a way to communicate classroom requirements, I will be using CANVAS. It is a learning management system that will house all of our classroom communication. In it you will find all required assignments and classroom information. You will be able to see if an assignment is completed or not. Student assignment scores can also be accessed through CANVAS. It will also serve as a “Student Planner”.  CANVAS is also where a student will go to find their missing work when absent. I have found that the best way for parents to navigate CANVAS is to log directly into their child's account. I can give you their account information or your child can give it to you. This is where you will find most classroom assignments. Click here Links to an external site. to learn about Canvas.

*Weekly e-mails will be sent home every Friday.  This note will contain information of the subject material being taught and important dates and information needed for the coming week.
