Parent Notes
Communication
I will be sending home a monthly newsletter with information about what is happening in our class and events at Creekside. If you need to communicate with me about your child, email is best. I would love to know if your child is sick or if you have any questions or concerns. You may also call the office and they can get a message to me if it is urgent.
Please do not text your child through their watches throughout the day this is very distracting for them as well as the class.
This year your child will bring home a blue communication folder each night. Please check it for any notes or information that may be coming home from school.
This folder is a great place to keep your child’s fluency pack or multiplication flash cards that they will be working on throughout the school year.
Homework
My philosophy on homework is the less homework the better. I really believe children need time to play and create and spend time with their family and friends.
That being said, I do hope you will encourage them to read each night for twenty minutes.
Each term I will send home a fluency pack for your child to read aloud to you. These are great If you have a reluctant reader or have a hard time finding material to help them practice their reading at home. Each packet will be at or close to their level. Each packet they complete and return to school will earn them $10.00 in classroom bucks. This is a great way to increase the bonus money they earn in class that will be spent in our class store. It is not required but is a great resource to help support a little bit of reading each night.
They may complete 3 a term if you choose.
We will also be sharing 1 book report project per term. as a working mom I do not want this to be a burden , I will provide two options for you to choose from. Please choose the option that is best for your family and student.
Flash cards for memorization of multiplication facts.
Rules and expectations
We will be following the new school wide discipline plan. I love the 4 rules because they are realistic and apply to our everyday life.
Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Kind.
I hope to create an atmosphere of love and acceptance in our class. I want every student to feel a part of our class family.
Please no outside toys or extra supplies from home.
Student of the week/ Lucky Duck
Each week on Friday, I will select a Lucky Duck, who will be our class president the following week. They will bring home a ALL ABOUT ME poster, please help them complete this over the weekend so that they may share it with the class on Monday.
Birthdays
We will celebrate each student’s birthday on or near their birthday, if they happen to have a summer birthday, I will celebrate it near their half birthday. I will let you know what day it will be each month in our communication letter. They may bring a store-bought treat that will be sent home with each child at the end of the day. Please do not send anything with nuts or nut oil, We do have peanut allergies in our class this year.
As of today, we have 25 students in our class.
Class Store
I am a firm believer in positive reinforcement for good behavior and for achieving the goals we set in class.
I believe every child has a chance to succeed and oversee their own learning. Third grade is a great time for them to set goals and achieve them and receive a reward for their hard work.
Each week our class will have goals set for technology. We will be using Lexia, i-Ready reading and math this is a program that they are tested on and receive lessons at their level. I expect them to complete 45 minutes each week in both i-Ready reading and Math, as well as completing 2 lessons with a score of 75% or higher. They will also be tracking their personal reading in class. I will provide time each day to work towards these goals.
On Friday if they have met these goals, they will earn $5.00 and get to participate in our FUN FRIDAY activities.
We will hold class store at midterm and the end of each term.
I welcome any fun trinket or treat that you might be willing to donate.
Setting goals gives you long-term vision and short-term motivation . It focuses your acquisition of knowledge, and helps you to organize your time and your resources so that you can make the most of your life.
Volunteers
I love having parents come in to help. I usually have them do flash cards with the kids, or to listen to them read. This year I am welcoming volunteers at the end of the day for flash cards starting at 3:00, and in the morning at 9 or 9:30 depending on what is best for your schedule, morning volunteers we be listening to students read. Students love seeing their parents at school if any of you have something you would love to teach or share with the class. Please let me know and we will schedule a time for you to stop in.
Please see district guidelines for volunteers.
