Applied 7th, 8th, and 9th Grade Math Classes βββ WELCOME BACK!
Hello, everyone, from Mr. Bovey!
We are looking forward to another great year learning about Math! I encourage each of you to contact me via email or school phone if you have any concerns at all! This is just a little bit about meβ¦
I received my Special Education degree at Boise State University. I was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where I received part of my schooling, joined the US Navy with which I served for 17 Honorable years, and traveled to many parts of the world. My two older children, Ben, who is almost 27, and Celine, 21, were living in the Boise, ID, area since 2005; however, Celine began living with my wife Bethany and I starting in August, 2016, and she is now starting THIS year as a 4th Year student in college studying International Business while taking care of her beloved cat Molly. Ben works in photography and at a golf club, has a wonderful wife (they got married in 2022), and more pets than I can count (three cats, one wonderful service dog border collie named Obi-Wan, and two other additional pups of various sizes named Pooch and Arwen!). To add to our excitement and joy, Bethany and I had our first daughter together when we adopted a little baby girl the day she was born on November 21st, 2016 - Madelyn! She is now almost 8 years old and starts 2nd Grade this year! And Yes, I'm a full HALF CENTURY older than my youngest! Just last year, we added one more member to our family - GROVER, a gigantic, super loveable Gold Retriever lookalike (he's mixed and twice the size) who even has his OWN very popular social media account! (4.5 million views at last count!)
I have high expectations for my students. They have plenty of time to complete assignments and assessments in multiple settings, but students will be expected to complete any unfinished work if that work was missed due to absenteeism, especially assessments. However, they will still be awarded full credit if completed before the end of any given Term and/or as dictated by an IEP. Additionally, if there is a pattern of academic struggle here at school, our team will assess to determine if more/less/adjusted accommodations are needed. I expect students to be attentive, respectful, and engaged regardless of the setting from which he or she is learning. I have the EXACT same expectations for MYSELF and I will never be offended if a parent ever asks me about those expectations, and I always encourage students to feel comfortable pointing out if I'm failing to listen to them. Student progress will be measured with monitoring, observations, assignments, and assessments. Accommodations, as dictated by the IEP and as dictated by best-teacher-practice, will always be available (obviously), including, when permitted, during testing (NOTE: some accommodations are not permitted with some formalized testing; ask me for more info on that subject if you need clarification).
I'm always excited to have your child in my classroom and I look forward to seeing and/or meeting each of you throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you wish to make an appointment!
Respectfully and thank you,
