Hello and welcome!

A brief and personal introduction: My name is Ben Johnson.  I am married to Mrs. Tana Johnson-the nicest Woods Cross High health teacher. Yes, I work with my wife.  We have 5 children that range from a junior in college to a 3rd grader .  Each one is unique and they keep us busy.  We have been married 20+ years! We enjoy hiking, camping, and taking care of our mini farm.  We have 40 + chickens, 2 horses, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.  We also count our tractor as one of beloved pets!  I was born and raised in West Bountiful, Utah; I still live there.  I served an ecclesiastical mission for 2 years in Louisville, Kentucky.  I am an avid bird hunter.  I make custom duck calls as a hobby. I have always wanted to be a cowboy.

A brief and impersonal resume: I worked for an industrial construction supplier for many years until I decided to finish my degree.  I graduated with honors from Weber State University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in English Teaching.  I graduated with my master's degree around 2015 from Weber State in English Literature.  During this time I studied composition and worked as a teaching apprentice at Weber State.  I currently teach CE courses at Viewmont High and Woods Cross High and English composition for Weber State .  I served/serve on various composition committees at both the university and high school levels. Additionally, I served as the K-12 interest section of the TESOL organization during my bachelor's work.  Recently,  I worked as an Account Executive for SixFifty, a software subsidiary of the law firm Wilson Sonsini.

A brief welcome: I am excited for this year.  The world is a rough place.  We can choose whether we make the world easier for each other or harder.  To quote the Nobel author Albert Camus, "I'd come to realize that all our troubles spring from our failure to use plain, clear-cut language. So I resolved always to speak--and to act--quite clearly"(254).  As Orwell states at the top of this page, much of our language today focuses on defending things that are indefensible.  We use language as a weapon of divisiveness.  I submit that many of the troubles in the world, many of the disagreements, many of our fears can be solved with precise, well-reasoned language.  That is my goal this year.  We read, we think, we speak, we make the world a better place.  So welcome and LETS GOO!
