Greetings and Herzlich Willkommen!

My name is Mr. Smith.  I teach German 1,2, & 3 as well as 8th Grade English and 9th Grade English Honors at Sunset Jr. High.  I am a Sundevil at heart!  Not only have I been teaching at Sunset Jr. High since 1996, but I was also a student here in the early 1980s from 7th to 9th grade. 

I love the German language, Germany the country, German food, and many other German things (Bundesliga Fußball). 

I also love teaching English because we get to focus on writing and reading, two of my favorite things to do.  

  • Students, if you would like more information about the class you will be taking this year, you should log in to Canvas and take a look at the course (once school starts of course).  That's where you will find the information you need to be successful in class this year.
    • The best way for you to communicate with me outside of class is to use the Canvas Inbox.
  • Parents, if you would like more information, please ask your student to log in to Canvas and show you what the course looks like. 
What you will need every day for English Class

  • A 3-Ring Binder full of lined paper.
  • A pen or pencil to write with.
  • A reading book (we'll go to the library as a class to get everyone a book).
  • Your iPad.  Make sure you charge it every night!
  • A positive attitude.
  • A willingness to work hard and learn!!!!
  • A 3-Ring Binder full of lined paper and 5 dividers.
  • A pen or pencil to write with.
  • Colored Pencils in a binder pouch (12 or 24 count).
  • Your iPad.  Make sure you charge it every night!
  • A composition notebook (not a spiral bound).
  • A positive attitude.
  • A willingness to try, work hard, and learn!!!!

One final piece of advice for students.  Here's a great way to remember to charge your iPad every night: 

Put it with your phone.  I guarantee that most teenagers would NEVER forget to plug in their phone to charge at night.  So . . . when you charge your phone, you'll remember to charge your iPad!  BOOM!  Greatest Idea EVER!!!!!
