Help
Each day that your child is home doing remote learning, he/she needs to access their English Language Arts and Math course in Canvas to see what the assignments are for the day. Instructions will be included with each assignment. Additionally, students need to check their "purple take home folder" for additional paper assignments to complete. Everything, including Canvas, can be accessed through your child's "Clever" badge which will be provided.
Student Guide & Parent Help with Canvas
The Canvas Student Guide provides information and guidance related to all things Canvas! Below, you will find both the text and video versions of the Student Guide:

Canvas/Remote Learning Help Sheet
*****Login information for the iPads is on the sheet in the back pocket of the purple "Take Home Folder." If you are ever asked for the user name it is on the white sticker at the top of the green sheet. The user name is: 31name@go.dsdmail.net and the password is the seven-digit PIN.*****
1. For Math and Language Arts always go through the “Canvas” app. The Canvas app will direct you to the Courses page. Click on either Language Arts or Math.
2. When you click on Math or Language Arts it will pull up a home page for that course. Scroll down on the home page until you see “This Week at a Glance.” This is the daily checklist for the Math or Language Arts course.
3. To get into the lessons click on “Modules” which is on the left navigation. ”Modules” list each day’s lessons. In the light gray box is each day’s date. Click on each lesson below the gray box. Each lesson will have the instructions for the lesson.
4. Math: These lessons have several parts: Launch A, Explore A, Discuss A, Launch B, Explore B, Discuss B. Your child will click the "next" button at the bottom of each screen which will take them to the next part.
5. i-Ready is accessed through the Clever app, using your child’s Clever badge. The Clever badge is also on the green sheet in the back of the purple “Take Home Folder.
6. Each Monday/Tuesday I will be sending home a yellow sheet, newsletter, and pink sheet, reading log. Please read the newsletter as it contains important information for you to know. The front side of the pink sheet is the recording sheet for your child’s home reading minutes. The other side of the pink sheet is an overview of the Language Arts focus for the week, including the spelling and vocabulary words. (Note: Due to the windstorm the overview was sent on a separate sheet last week)
*****I will be unpublishing each module/lesson at the end of each day. I don’t want a long list of modules/lessons. Work needs to be completed on the day it is assigned.*****
Has Your Child Missed Class?
Regular attendance is vital. Please schedule vacations during school breaks. It’s important to know that in second grade we are learning many new things each day. Some of those things are foundational that continue to build upon. It is very difficult if your child has missed those foundational lessons. Work missed while your child is absent will be saved in your child’s mailbox to complete at home after they return to school. Students will also need to complete the work that was posted on Canvas for their remote learning days. It is the parents’ responsibility to do what they can to teach the missed concept at home. Absent work should be completed and turned in within a week after the student returns.
