-Be On Task At All Times

-Treat Others The Way You Wish To Be Treated

-No Food Or Drink In The Work Area

-Ask Questions When Applicable

Consequences For Violations of Expected Business Behaviors

2nd Offense: Move Seats

3rd Offense: Write Up and a Phone Call Home

4th Offense:  Referral to Counselor/Administration

Tardies

If you are not in the classroom in your seat when the bell rings, you are tardy.  As we run this class like a business I expect contact from you that you will be late for class and an explanation as to why before the class begins.

1st Tardy:  Verbal Warning

2nd-3rd Tardy:  Write Up and Phone Call Home

4th Tardy: Citizenship Grade U

Classwork

All of our classwork will be completed through Canvas.  The Business Do Now’s for the start of class each day will become available 2 minutes before the class starts each day.  All assignments will be posted there as well, if you do not have internet access at home please save these daily to your flash drive for the class to ensure that they can be completed.  Quizzes will be posted there as well and only available for the time approved.  Please note: Links to resources have not been vetted beyond the original page cited.

Citizenship

The business classroom is a model of the business world. Problems with attendance, participation in class, and disruptive behavior results in losing a citizenship grade just as those problems in the workforce would result in losing a job. Therefore, conduct yourself in a professional, business-like manner. Office workers must demonstrate professional skills: a positive attitude, be to work on time, follow directions, be organized, be prepared, complete assignments neatly, efficiently, and on time, and show respect for coworkers, superiors, and business property. I expect the same from my students.

All Davis School District Attendance and Citizenship Policies will be applicable to students in this course. We will be using the Layton High School Citizenship Rubric to assess credit. Four or more tardies, four or more unexcused absences, or one truancy will result in an automatic “U”.

We will follow the Layton High School citizenship policy.

Make-Up, Late Work, And Extra Credit

Your attendance is vital to your understanding of all of the course materials, and the guidelines in the student handbook are strictly enforced.  The STUDENT is RESPONSIBLE for assignments when they have missed class.  It is the RESPONSIBILITY of the STUDENT to make necessary arrangements with the instructor no later than THREE days following an absence.  They will be offered the same amount of time as the present students were given to complete the assignment.

Active Participation in this course is not an option but a requirement.  Students who are present in class but do not complete assignments as they become due will be penalized as follows: Homework assignments that are turned in late will reduce the maximum score possible by 1% per day that the assignment is late up to twenty days.  Late homework should be submitted online with a personal comment to the teacher letting me know the work was completed.  If there is not a comment, I will not know to look for your work.  If there are technical problems you should bring it to the attention of the teacher IMMEDIATELY.

Extra credit opportunities will arise throughout the semester.  There will be no individual extra credit assignments assigned in the course.   The extra credit opportunities will have a due date and any time after that date will NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Additional Class Expectations

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!

The expectations set for you are ones that as high school students, you should have no problem achieving.  To pass this class you’ll need to BE IN CLASS daily, BE PREPARED with all of your materials, TURN IN YOUR WORK and REMAIN ENGAGED in class at all times.  You can and will be successful if you do all of these things!!

Food, Drinks, Cell Phones, and Laptops

There will be NO FOOD OR DRINK allowed in our classroom.  As we will have the computers available for our classroom use we need to keep them in the best condition possible.

THERE WILL BE NO CELLPHONE USE IN THE CLASSROOM DURING INSTRUCTION. You will earn Business Bucks for putting your phone in the pockets to the side of the room as you enter the classroom each day.  If ever you are found using your phone during class, it will be placed in the pockets for the remainder of the class period.  If you are behind on assignments or are failing the class the expectation will be that your phone is in the pocket EVERY DAY!!

We will not be using our personal laptops in this classroom as we have computers already provided for our use.

Cheating and Plagiarism

If you are found cheating or giving someone else your answers on any test, quiz, or assignment you will receive a zero for that assignment and your parents will be notified.  Plagiarism will also earn you a zero for any assignment.  Document your sources appropriately so that this does not ever become an issue.

Both giver and receiver: First Offense = “U” zero points earned, parents contacted. Second Offense = “F” for the term.

Additional Instructor Rules and Information

-This classroom is run like a business.  If you are going to be absent or tardy a professional email sent from your email with the reason why is expected as the minimum, BEFORE the class period you will miss.

-If you do not tell us, we do not know.  I am here as a resource for you daily and if ever there is something you need to communicate with me, you can contact me through email or make an appointment with me.

-Bathroom Breaks/Hall Passes.  Are allowed if needed, but should try to avoid teacher instruction time.   If this becomes an issue we’ll adjust the policy.

-Professionalism.  Layton High School is consistently working to prepare its students for college and their professional career beyond.  I expect you to act professional, dress professional, and always communicate with business professional language.  I will enforce the DRESS CODE in my classroom just as it would be enforced at your job.

-RESPECT.  The expectation is that each of you will be treated with respect and we expect the same in return.   In a class that will have a multitude of guest speakers, our expectation is that when someone is talking you need to give them your undivided attention.

-Business Bucks will be used to reward all kinds of excellent classroom behavior, getting to class on time, putting your phone away, participating in class discussions, and many other opportunities.  Business Bucks can and will be used to purchase items at class auctions and if not spent could potentially help you get your grade up at the end of each term.

Equal Opportunity Education

No student shall be subjected to discrimination in education, any district program or

activity on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, genetic information,

national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

AGREEMENT FOR COMPUTER TERMINAL PRIVILEGES

Acceptable Use Agreement (AUP): Students will be expected to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy that was signed by parents and students during the registration process.  This will be strictly followed. Violations will result in a class change and loss of computer privileges.  If students or parents have not signed this document, they each will need to sign in to MyDSD and select the option to sign documents. Failure to complete this process will result in students being locked out of the school computers and other accounts. This will not be an acceptable excuse for missing assignments.

PARENTS:

Please read, go over and discuss this syllabus and the expectations of our class with your student.  PLEASE SIGN ELECTRONICALLY SO I KNOW YOU’VE SEEN AND AGREE WITH OUR CLASS POLICIES.   Please also ensure that your MyDSD account has the best contact information for you to be reached.
