Objective: Be able to drawing the 5 basic forms, shade them, and demonstrate that you can apply that knowledge to creating everyday items.
Why: Most things we draw involve one or more of these forms. It is a useful skill to be able to draw and shade them.
Standard: Elements and Principals of Visual Art, Create.
15 Drawings
We have been working on this drawing for weeks. The forms that should be drawn are a cube, a sphere, a cone, a cylinder and a pyramid.
Fold a 18x12 inch piece of paper into 16 equal size boxes. Write your name in one of the boxes. In the remaining boxes. Draw 3 different types of drawing for each of the forms.
- Make a line drawing of each form with the axis line included. Label the axis line on each drawing, and where appropriate, label the axis point, axis point line and 90 degree angle.
- Draw the forms again this time shade the forms and include a shadow. The axis line should not be showing when the drawing is done.
- Draw and shade each form again, then make them into recognizable objects with shadows. Examples: a cube could be made into a present, a book, a fish tank, or dice. A cone could be made into a party hat, an ice-cream cone, or the tip of a pencil. A cylinder could be a can of tuna, a soup can, a wheel of cheese, or a cake. A pyramid could be a metronome, a pyramid of Egypt, a tent, or a roof. A sphere could be a basketball, beachball, baseball, an orange, an apple, or a planet. You don't need to use these ideas you can come up with your own. I would like you to look at an actual photo of what you are drawing, try to identify the shadows and then draw them.
There will be three parts to your grade.
One for being able to drawing each form
One for shading each form so that the shape has a shadow and looks 3D, not flat.
One for being able to apply your knowledge of the above and create an object.
When done photograph and turn in your assignment.
