Take your time to do a nice job. If we were in the classroom I would have you use Crayola colored pencils. Use whatever is available to you, at this time, like pencils, crayons, markers, or paint. I think the most valuable learning comes from seeing the colors next to each other so you can see what the schemes look like, and how the colors interact with each other. If you really don’t have anything to add color with, write words in each space. It is better than nothing and I will be able to see that you understand how to create the schemes. It will probably take about the same amount of time. You may also want to use your color scheme notes to do this assignment. They might come in useful while picking colors.
Where you drew overlapping shapes, you created many different smaller shapes. Color each small shape one of the colors in the color scheme. I like to start by making a small mark on each of my small shapes, in order to make sure I can color all of them without the same colored shapes touching each other.
Step 1. Above the first box is the word Primary. If you will remember, the primary colors are red yellow and blue. So in the first box red, yellow, and blue are the only colors you should use. Remember this is a triad of only primary colors. I am frequently asked which blue to use, but as long as it is blue I don’t really mind if it is a sky blue, or a dark blue. Please don’t use blue-green or red orange though.
Step 2. Above the second box you wrote the word Secondary. I would like you to fill that box with secondary colors. If you remember from your notes about secondary triads, those colors are orange, green, and violet. Remember use only orange, green, and violet.
Step 3. In the third box you wrote Complementary. If you will remember, the complementary colors are colors that are across from each other on the color wheel. So I would like you to choose complementary colors. This will be a little more difficult to keep the colors from touching, because you will only have two colors to work with. Be careful, as planning will be needed. If you make a mistake don’t worry about it. As long as the colors in the box are 2 complementary colors, I will be happy. I personally used violet and yellow.
- Some of your choices might be: red and green, or orange and blue, or yellow and violet
- You may also choose some of the more difficult to recognize color combinations like blue-green and red-orange, or red violet and yellow green. That are also directly across from each other on the color wheel.
Step 4. When you are done photograph or scan it and send me a copy. Once again, I would like to check your progress before you finish.
Don’t forget to save your paper for the next lesson. We will be doing the bottom row at that time. I will average the lesson scores together for this unit
