Color schemes Drawing
This will take 3 lessons, so keep it in a safe place. Most of my examples have 8 shapes and are on a full piece of paper. I would like you to use 6 shapes and put it on a half sheet of paper, if you will be out for a few days. Use a full sheet and 8 if you will be in class next period.
The files are the same instructions as below, with photos added.

Day 1
- Position your half sheet of paper landscape.
- Leave a ¼ to ½ inch border at the top and bottom of the paper.
- Divide your paper into 6 roughly equal boxes. Three on the top and three on the bottom. If you choose not to use a ruler and measure out equally sized rectangles, make sure the lines look like you deliberately made them crooked.
- In the border above the top 3 boxes put the following labels on the boxes, Primary, Secondary, and Complementary,
- On the border below the 3 bottom shapes write Analogous, Neutral, and Monochromatic.
- Put 6 shapes on your paper. On my sample, I drew bubble numbers, but you may choose your own shapes. Place them so that each shape is in two or more boxes. (Notice I used the word shape not line. If you use numbers or letters, make them into shapes. You need to be able to fill in the shapes. The drawing will not work if the numbers are made of lines not shapes.)
- Next draw a shape over the top of this drawing. This shape should go into each box and into each shape. It can be representational, like letters, or it can be nonrepresentational, a shape that doesn’t represent anything like a squiggle or spiky thing.
- Photograph this and send me a copy. I will average the grades together as you finish them.
- We will color it in the next lesson so don’t lose your paper.
