Objective: prepare to take a test that shows your understanding of the color schemes and the color theory we have talked about in class.
Color test notes
For this lesson read over and write these notes. It is a review for the quiz I would like you to take. You may use your color notes and color scheme notes and these notes on the test.
You will need to match these terms with colors.
The primary colors are red, blue, and yellow.
The secondary colors are orange, green and violet.
The intermediate colors are colors with two names like yellow-green, or red-violet, or blue-violet.
Neutral colors are brown, black, gray, and white.
The warm colors are orange, yellow, and red.
The cool colors are blue, green, and violet.
Analogous colors are colors that are next to each other like red orange, orange, and yellow orange.
Complementary colors are colors that are across from each other like red and green, or yellow and violet, or blue and orange.
Monochromatic means one color it’s darks and lights, like red, pink, and dark red.

The hue of a color is the actual color or norm for each color, the color you think of when you think of that color. Yellow that looks bright yellow.
When you think of orange you usually think of a warm summer day.
The color blue feels calming or depressing.
A triad is three equally spaced colors on a color wheel.
Red, yellow and red-orange are analogous colors they do not make a triad
You cannot mix green and orange paint to make a primary color. The primary colors cannot be mixed.
Monochromatic colors are tints and shades of one color.
Complementary colors are opposites on the color wheel.
Metallic colors have metal in them.
A color scheme is a combination or formula of colors that artists use for a specific reason
To shade a color, add black
To tint a color, add white.
Color is different wavelengths of light being reflected back to our eyes.
