Note:
It might help you to learn a little about MC Escher. I appreciate art more when I know a little of what went into it.
He is a Dutch artist/print maker that started school as an architect then changed to design.
He married Jetta Umiker, slide 9 shows an image of he and his wife. They had 2 sons.
He didn’t think he was very good at drawing.
He struggled with drawing in school. In art classes he thought his work was average or lower.
He didn’t think he was an artist. He thought he was a print maker, or a graphic designer. These are prints. He either applied a waxy resist to a stone or cut into metal or wood to make the image in reverse, mirror image, and then printed it.
He didn’t think he was a mathematician. But you will find that most of his art contains complex mathematical concepts like tessellations, the concept of approaching infinity, or geometric shapes.
He is one of my favorite artist/print-makers.
