Test notes on line, shape and form

Objectives: Prepare for the test, review the learning on line, shape, and form. Make a set of notes that can be used on the test.

Why: Forms are the building blocks of drawing with depth. 

Standard: Elements and Principals of Visual Art, Create.

Read this. Take notes on the information. Taking notes will help you remember. Something about writing, helps information stick in your brain. This page gives you the answers to the test. When you are done with the notes take the test, it is the next assignment. 

Shape is__ 2D, has height and width

Form is__ 3D, has height and width and depth

Draw 2 organic shapes and 3 geometric shapes.

Organic _________   Anything that comes out of nature or is curvy. A leaf, snail shell, tree etc. 

Geometric _____ ___ a man made angular or circular shape. Like a triangle, square, circle, oval, rectangle, octagon, etc. 

Draw 3 forms_____ ____ ______ These can be simple, a cube, sphere, cone, cylinder or pyramid. I am only looking for height, length and depth. 

The word for man-made, angular shapes/ forms? is geometric

What is the word for curvy fluid shapes/ forms? Organic, (Mr. Anderson calls them amorphic, I will accept both answers on the test.)

An ellipse is? seeing a circle at an angle

The widest part of an ellipse is?___90 degrees from the axis line

What is the first thing you do when you draw a form? (Cube and pyramid not included.)_Draw the axis line

Define 

• Line: path of a moving point through space, a visual path that is longer than wide
• Drawing-through: drawing through an object to get correct proportions
• Implied line: not visible but still a path
• Gesture lines: show movement or action of form
• Contour lines: lines that define a form or shape by touching its outline                           
• Blocking in: to sketch lightly, to get sizes, position, angles, and shapes         
• Foreshortening:  to visually shorten something that is coming at you                 
•  Art elements:  the basic units out of which art is created                      
• Art principals: the rules of art or how to use the art elements
