Course Description This course is designed to teach students how to work with wood using hand and power tools in a safe manner. Information and skills learned will include plan reading and design, project estimating and layout, building materials and basic operation of applicable hand and power tools used in industry. Students will learn to identify different common species of natural wood and manufactured/engineered woodworking products. Each student will build their own project. Projects required for course completion shall be included in the course fee. Students may be required to pay for an additional discretionary project if the student chooses a project in lieu of, or in addition to required classroom project. Costs for additional or alternative projects are not subject to fee waiver. Students are expected to show up on time, be ready to work, have a good attitude, communicate with instructor and classmates, complete minimum work required daily, and clean up individual project and assigned shop dust and debris. The last 10 minutes of class is dedicated to cleaning. Participation in discussion, classroom and shop work, and cleaning is required for student’s success.

Failure to follow instructions may result in disciplinary action and loss of privileges. Personal safety is expected daily and rough housing or uncareful attitude towards self or others will not be tolerated. FOR ALL LATE ASSIGNMENTS/QUIZZES 10% WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR FINAL GRADE.
Disclosure and Safety
This disclosure should be read and signed by both student and legal guardian. Students will not be allowed to participate without the signed consent of their guardian.
Safety instruction and testing is required for each student to be able to perform the industry standard tool and machine operation. Students will be taught the proper procedure for wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are always expected to follow proper safety procedures. Failure to do so may result in personal injury. Safety glasses must always be sorn in shop.

A = 100-95% B- = 83-77% D+ = 66-64%
A- = 94-90% C+ = 76-74% D = 63-60%
B+ = 89-87% C = 73-70% D- = 59-57%
B = 86-84% C- = 69-67% F Below 57%
