Secondary Math I, Secondary Math I Honors, and Secondary Math II Honors
North Layton Jr. High School
Welcome! I'm Mrs. Jane Richards. I have been teaching since fall 2002 and have taught math and English to students in grades 7-12, as well as college general education courses. These are my degrees: Mathematics Education (BS, 2002), English (BA, 2004), and Teaching and Learning (MS, 2004). I also taught swimming lessons for six years in high school and college. I love teaching and believe that a great education can make a big difference in a person's life. My husband and I have been married since 2006 and have two children. My hobbies include playing the piano and organ, reading, and sewing.
All of our class information can be found on our class Canvas page.

I have included some frequently asked questions here:
Calculators:
I recommend that each student has a TI-30 scientific calculator (or similar model) to use in completing math assignments. They are available at Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon for about $10. We do have a classroom set of TI-84 calculators that students will be able to use in class for specific lessons that require a graphing calculator, but students will need to provide their own calculator most days.
Assignment Policy:
1. Assignments are worth 10% of your grade.
2. Assignments will be counted as complete or incomplete with a score of 1 or 0.
3. For an assignment to be considered complete, all problems must be done, and work must be shown.
4. Late assignments will be marked “late” but are still worth full credit until the end of the unit.
5. After we finish a unit, late assignments will be worth half credit until the late work cut-off date for that unit, which will be announced in class.
6. Turning work in late affects your citizenship grade.
Retake Policy:
1. Test/quiz retakes can be done during lunch, after school, or on Wednesdays (late-start days) between 9:00-9:55 a.m.
2. All assignments for that test or quiz must be completed before retaking any part of the test/quiz.
3. Your retake score(s) will replace your original score(s).
