The October Book Report is Due October 31!
Fall Break is October 17 and 18--No school for students
Monday, October 21, is a Teacher Work Day--No school for students
Students only homework this week is catching up any missing/late assignments.s.
End of Term
This Wednesday, October 16, is the last day of the first term. It is also an early out day. All work must be turned in by this day to receive credit. I will be calculating grades and filling out report cards during the teacher work day on October 21. Parent-teacher conferences will be on November 6 and 7.
What We Are Learning
This week we'll be continue reading selections in our Amplify ELA unit. The students have been so engaged in learning about the search for the cause of yellow fever. If you are ever interested in checking out one of the student books to read the text for yourself, please let me know.
This week in math we start a new chapter on unit rates and percentages. This week we'll use be solving ratio problems in the context of measurement.
And in social studies this week we will learning about Ancient Egyptian clothing, social classes, and religious beliefs. We will also keep checking on our carrot mummies.
Paper Mache
This WEDNESDAY we will be making a paper mache Egyptian death mask. Students WILL GET DIRTY (from the flour and water paste) and should dress accordingly. If you have any old newspaper that you could donate, please send it to school by Tuesday. Also, if you could donate a can of gold spray paint, please let me know. I will need the paint by next Wednesday, October 30. Thank you!
Halloween
Our Sixth-Grade Halloween Party will be on October 31 from 9:00-10:30 in the school gym. Thank you to everyone who signed up to help or donate for our sundae bar. I so appreciate all of you!! Students may wear a costume to school that day. The day after Halloween, November 1, is a teacher work day and no school for students.
