Activity 9 - Evaluate: Create an Imaginary Country Geographical Map
Learning Objective: I can draw and label a map of my imaginary country.
- In the previous lesson, you brainstormed ideas for names of natural and cultural features found on your imaginary country.
- In this lesson, you will draw a map of your imaginary country.
- Your map will include a compass rose, map key, and symbols of your natural and cultural features. You will label the features with the names you brainstormed during the first activity.
Instructions:
- For this activity you will need a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and crayons or colored pencils.
- First draw your country in the middle of the page. You will want to leave space for the oceans around your country.
- In the lower left hand corner, draw a compass rose. Label the compass rose with cardinal and intermediate directions.
- In the lower right hand corner, draw a map key.
- Your map key should include symbols for the capital city, cities, mountains, deserts, plains, rivers and lakes.
- First, draw state boundaries to create 5 states.
- Have at least one border a natural-made border.
- Label each state.
- Now decide where you think the capital city and other cities should go. Draw symbols to show where the capital city and other cities are located. Label the cities with their names.
