Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
There is much mystique and legend when it comes to settling of the American west; one fascinating part of that history is law and order; although, the wild, wild-west has been glamorized by Hollywood through the years. Hollywood’s version of law enforcement has evolved from early depictions of gun slinging sheriff in the middle 19th century up to modern day exaggerations of police; chronicling bumbling patrol officers, dirty undercover detectives, and super-human S.W.A.T. operators. There has without question been an entertainment value brought to viewers with exaggerated stories. Along with entertainment value of the Hollywood version of law enforcement, there has also been a price paid for the distorted view. A closer look at the origins and evolution of a citizen enlisted police department is necessary to determine the accuracy of the past and status of the present in regards to public safety.
Welcome!
My name is Eric Johnsen. I am super excited to be your instructor for this course. I cannot wait to meet each of you and introduce you to the exciting world of Law Enforcement. I am currently a Lieutenant with the Farmington Police Department. I started my career working for Sandy and spent a short time with Layton. I am excited to share with you my personal adventures as a police officer and also engage in conversations about the current events in our crazy world. You can look forward to a classroom that is going to be fun and interactive with very little homework. My goal is to challenge you to look at the world around you from a different vantage point and deepen your understanding of the importance of living in a nation built on laws and the complexities of enforcing those laws.
